Hankinson, and I invented the Chromatic® Watch. I based its design on the interesting fact that the hours on a clock and the number of pitches in Western music both equal twelve. When you begin to look around, you notice a lot of things which use groups of twelve: 12 hours on clocks and watches 12 half-steps in an octave 12 months in a year 12 inches in a foot 12 items in a dozen 12 dozen in a gross (144) 12 grades in a standard education (Biblical): 12 apostles, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 gates to the City 12 Zodiac signs 12 gods in the Greek & Roman pantheon More About the Chromatic Scale Each octave of the chromatic scale contains all the pitches in our musical system--hence, each chromatic scale is a microcosm of our musical world.
